Aliya Rahman, a 43-year-old Minneapolis resident and U.S. citizen, was on her way to a doctor’s appointment at the city’s Traumatic Brain Injury Center when masked ICE agents surrounded her car.
Video of the encounter shows an agent smashing her passenger-side window while others cut her seatbelt and dragged her out through the driver’s side door, then carried her by her arms and legs toward an ICE vehicle.
“I’m disabled trying to go to the doctor up there, that’s why I didn’t move,” Rahman said as officers pulled her arms behind her back.
She later said agents “dragged me from my car and bound me like an animal, even after I told them that I was disabled.”
The Department of Homeland Security said Rahman was an agitator who was obstructing ICE agents conducting arrests in the area. The incident happened blocks from where ICE agent Jonathan Ross fatally sh*t Renee Nicole Good days earlier.
The MacArthur Justice Center has since taken Rahman’s case, describing the encounter as a violent attack by federal agents. No charges related to the arrest have been announced.
